The Leap of Faith He Took
Twenty years ago, I started in mainframes. I was good at it, eventually managing multiple projects and teams from a comfortable senior position. But being comfortable started to feel like a ceiling. I wanted to build at the edge of what technology could do, in a space with infinite room to learn. So I made the call: pivot into Data Science, drop three levels, take a 40% pay cut, and start again from the ground up. My family backed me. I backed myself. I've never second-guessed it.
I return often to a quote that framed that decision: "Between stimulus and response is a space. In that space lies our freedom and power to choose our response." That space — that pause before the comfortable choice — is where my career actually began. Outside of the architecture and code, that same space is where I recharge. You'll often find me diving deep into new AI research papers or studying system design; I'm a big believer that you have to stay fiercely curious to stay relevant. But what truly keeps me grounded is my family. They were the ones who backed my wild dream to start over ten years ago, and spending quality time with them is my ultimate reset button.
When the Whiteboard Became the Product
My proudest work at Tredence was leading the Digichat project for a major client in India — one of the first Text-to-SQL agentic platforms to reach production, built before the industry had a standard playbook for what we were doing. We whiteboarded every agent individually, designed fallbacks for unpredictable AI behaviour, and layered in heuristic guardrails before writing a single line of code. We debated for hours to reach consensus, and that rigour is exactly why it held together at scale.
What made it significant wasn't just the delivery. It proved our capabilities in a way that opened doors across multiple industries and became a catalyst for the vertical's growth. Sometimes the work you do before anyone else is watching sets out the trajectory for everything that follows.
My biggest competition is the person I was last year.
Sharpened by the Room
I don't have one GOAT maker — I have a team. What drives me at Tredence is the quality of the minds I get to think alongside every day. We brainstorm without hierarchy, challenge each other's assumptions, and are never afraid to test a bold idea all the way to its edges. That kind of collective energy doesn't just produce better solutions — it makes you a sharper architect and a more honest leader. I learn as much from my team as they do from me, and I think that's exactly how it should work.
Exploring the Next
Right now, my focus is on pushing the boundaries of what multi-agent workflows can achieve. We're moving beyond basic conversational AI and building highly dynamic, agentic systems that can independently reason, plan, and execute complex enterprise tasks. I'm heavily invested in exploring newer frameworks, optimizing LLM/SLM performance for lower latency, and leveraging ecosystems like Databricks to scale these solutions. Whether it's fine-tuning models for intricate Text-to-SQL tasks or designing intelligent RAG setups, the goal is to make AI systems more autonomous and reliable.
After twenty years in technology, the thing that still gets me out of bed is the same thing that made me take the pay cut: the feeling of building something that didn't exist before. Over the next few years, I envision pushing my craft and my team toward building systems where AI agents don't just answer questions but act as proactive problem-solvers — cultivating a team culture that's entirely fearless, that anticipates the next wave of agentic design and sets the standard for how AI transforms core business operations.
